What is Art?

When we look at art we see: Michaelangelo, Picasso, Mona Lisa, etc. When we define art we say: A set of skills used to express yourself, or so on and so forth. When we think of art we think: studio art, visual art, dramas, etc. While all of these are correct, art is much more than the three of these combined.

Art does not have a set of concrete requirements. It is an expression of emotion, creativity, ideas, beliefs, and values. It is a form of storytelling between the artist’s mind and their surroundings. It can be as complicated as one can imagine, or as simplistic as possible. Art can be expressed in many different forms, from drawing and painting to math and science. To me, art is a form of expressing my inner thoughts and how I connect with the world around me. Art is an interpretation of how I view the world and also how I fit into the world. Without art there is no: individuality, communication, or culture. The world around us would not be the same without art. There are no limits to art because, in a sense, one does not have to know what art is, in order to create it.

Art is pleasant and chaotic. It is simple yet intricate. Art is the way your home is laid out, the way your clothes join together, especially the way we talk to one another. Art does not have to be as grand as the Sistine Chapel because art is anything that can capture people’s emotions. Art is something that connects us all.
